This course is for students who want to work as interior designers and/or decorators for interior design and architectural practices, or as self employed design consultants, design project administrators and design managers. Students will develop skills in providing creative and technical solutions for built interior environments. Interior design at this level covers the planning and detailing of complex residential, commercial and institutional design projects with an emphasis on space creation, space planning and the factors that affect peoples' responses to living and working environments. It may also include specialist design areas such as facilities for people with disabilities, institutional design, exhibitions, the aged, and adaptive re-use projects. This qualification covers the skills required to provide the full scope of services performed by a professional interior design practitioner. Career opportunities include interior designers for interior design and architectural practices, or self employed design consultants, design project administrators and design managers.

Students must have completed year 10 or equivalent, and they have to submit a portfolio. They must also demonstrate English language ability such as, suitable results of a recent academic IELTS - score 6.0 overall with no individual band lower than 5.5, or TOEFL (iBT) 68, or successful completion of TAFE NSW Certificate III in English for Further Study, or proof that the medium of instruction at school has been in English with satisfactory grades in English in final examinations.
