This course offers training for students who want to work as animators in film, TV or other related 3D industries. In the first year, the course introduces students to the skills required to produce industry standard 3D modelling and animations. They are also introduced to the elements of the production process involved in making a short animated film. In the second year, they learn advanced high poly modelling, realistic lighting and texturing and the skills required to create highly detailed animation. By the end of the year, students have developed skills in specialist areas such as character modelling or animation. They also gain experience and skills in production planning, scriptwriting and production management. On completion of the course, students have access to a wide range of careers in the games development and CGI industries.

Applicants must have creative ability and potential (as demonstrated through portfolio); good communication and teamwork skill; fundamental computer skills and passion and enthusiasm for game development. In addition, applicants must have an IELTS overall score: 5.5. Students who do not meet the English requirements will be given a Provisional Letter of Offer. In this situation they will be required to enroll in a suitable English language course prior to commencing their studies at AIE.

This campus is located within the Atari Building in Queens Road, the birthplace of the Melbourne games industry. The relationships which have been developed and fostered over the years between the games industry and AIE provide students with many opportunities to engage with the industry for which they are studying. Courses at AIE Melbourne are guided and taught by experienced staff who have worked extensively in the Computer Game Development and Screen Animation fields, both in Australia and globally.

This campus is located in Watson, a leafy suburb just to the north of the city centre. AIE Canberra, the first AIE campus, was established in 1996 in response to a demand for 3D games artists and programmers. The industry experienced teachers have guided students through the courses to employment at every major games and 3D animation studio in Australia as well as a number of internationally renowned companies. The provision of campus noticeboards and online forums allow students and organisations to promote positions vacant, accommodation vacancies and industry events and functions. In their spare time, AIE Canberra students can also make use of the numerous games and pinball machines, TV facilities, XBOX 360, Play station 2, sporting facilities and on site library.
