This program provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in wide-ranging, highly specialized technical tourism skills covering operations, sales, marketing, product development, business planning, and human resource and financial management. These strategic management skills are underpinned by a range of operational competencies, chosen as electives. Work would mostly be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered, or a combination of both. Employment opportunities within the tourism field include any destination, local or regional area, tourist precinct, site, attraction or onboard form of transportation. It reflects the role of individuals who analyse, design and execute judgements using wide-ranging technical, creative, conceptual or managerial competencies. Their knowledge base may be specialized or broad. These individuals are often accountable for group outcomes. Individuals with this qualification are able to work in any sector of the tourism industry as a senior manager, general manager or owner-operator of any style of tourism business. Employment as operations or attractions manager, operations consultant, tour coordinator, specialist guide, event manager or function coordinator.

Students should have any one of the following requirements: Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60 per cent); or, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; or, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); or, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); or, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
