This program is the highest qualification in environmental horticulture in Australia, and introduces students to the study of plants in urban landscape environments with a focus on design, planning, implementation and management. Students will learn from staff who are leaders in industry and research and have access to an extensive and successful alumni cohort - providing employment and mentoring to recent graduates. Students receive a strong technical and theoretical foundation in ecology, plant science and sustainable horticulture, supported by studies in communications, business management, staff supervision, occupational health and safety and first aid. The course includes an eight-week industry placement, where students complete a work program in the horticulture industry under the guidance of trained professionals. Students can move from the Associate Degree in Environmental Horticulture to the Bachelor of Environments. Graduates gain employment at technical or middle-management levels in the areas of aboriculture, landscape design and construction, production and retail nurseries, public and private gardens, urban parks, turf management, horticultural and re-vegetation contractors and enterprises. Others go on to develop their business.

Applicants should have successfully completed the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an equivalent qualification. International applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria in English language requirements: TOEFL paper based test score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English, computer based test score of 233 or more including an essay rating score of 4.5, internet based test score of 90 or more with no band score less than 21; an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0; satisfactorily complete secondary studies and gain the required score in an approved final-year English subject; within the last two years have satisfactorily completed at least the first year of a tertiary course taught and assessed entirely in English; or within the last five years have satisfactorily completed at least a two year tertiary course taught and assessed entirely in English.
