This two-year program provides a solid grounding in information technology, preparing students for further study, or an IT career within the software development and information services industries. Students will also acquire the necessary education to assume positions in small to medium enterprises where a broad range of IT skills are demanded. This program has a strong practical and industry focus and is especially suited to mature-aged and equity students who may not necessarily qualify for entry into a three or four year degree program. This program aims to provide a solid grounding in the application of computer and information technology to prepare graduates for a career specialising in networking, software development or IT security, particularly in a small to medium business setting.

Students are required to have: completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and completed 200 credits of subjects; achieved a grade of C or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2; achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2; obtained a competitive ATAR. For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required. Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have fulfilled prerequisite requirements and: successfully complete the ATN selection test; completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level; completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Diploma level or above; completed the Associate Degree in Engineering program at the University of South Australia. They must have completed one of the following professional courses: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE); or MCSE + Internet and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD); or Lotus Certified Professional (CLP); or Novell Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE); or Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA); or Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP). International students must have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: Overall 6.0 (with 6.0 in Reading and Writing) obtained within the last two years. Students are required to meet at least one of the English language entry requirements listed. IELTS 6.0, TOEFL PBT 550 with TWE of 4.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no band less than 20, Cambridge CPE C, Cambridge CAE 52 (no less than Borderline in RW), CELUSA AE4, Pearson PTE Academic Bands below as per the Pearson equivalency table 59 with no communicative score less than 53.
