This program is a flexible applied science course focussing on the specific field of animal science. Starting with a general science foundation, the four-year course develops skills in applied animal health and disease; nutrition and feed technology; reproduction and assisted reproductive technologies; behaviour and welfare science; genetics and biotechnology. They will also undertake practical experience with relevant animal or animal-related enterprises throughout their degree and during university holidays as part of the compulsory professional development program. The course also includes a small-scale, supervised research project in an animal science area of their choice. It provides an excellent path to careers in the animal industries, agribusiness, government, research and education. Animal scientists can work with a wide range of animals, from production animals to companion animals and native and exotic wildlife. Animal scientists have proven to be highly employable across a broad range of disciplines, working in capital cities, rural areas, and overseas.

Students must have an acceptable secondary qualification from their high school studies (or at least one year of tertiary studies). HSC level chemistry and mathematics, study in biology would also be an advantage. They must satisfy IELTS score of 6.5 (min 6.0 in each band) or TOEFL minimum result of 577 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in writing or IBT score of 90 overall including a minimum result of 22 in reading, listening and speaking and 23 in writing).

The Camperdown campus is the home to the faculties of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Architecture, Arts, Economics and Business, Education and Social Work, Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Veterinary Science. Also located on this campus is the University's Centre for English Teaching. This campus has sports ovals and centres, museums, galleries, two major complexes devoted to student recreation and services.

Accomodation options that are available in this campus are University owned accommodation, Residential colleges, Sydney University Village, STUCCO student cooperative living. International House is the only University owned residential college. It offers both catered and self-catered options. The Student Housing Unit manages Darlington House, the Terraced Housing and Selle House. Darlington House accommodates 54 students in 12 male-only or female-only self-contained apartments in a modern apartment building. The Terraced Housing consists of single and twin-shared bedrooms in 43 terraced houses located near the University. Low cost accommodation, subsidised by the University, is offered in Selle House and several terraced houses. This accommodation caters to students on a very low budget. Students will only be eligible if they are an Australian Citizen or a Resident and receive a Centrelink benefit. Sydney University Village offers self-catering apartments to enrolled students. Located in Newtown, about ten minutes walk from the university, STUCCO is a housing co-operative for full-time, low income students who are Australian residents. Affiliated with, but not owned by the University, it accommodates 38 students in eight apartments. Off campus accommodation is available in student residence or hostel.

On campus accommodation includes Nepean Lodge and Nepean Hall. Nepean Lodge is a modern complex of two, three and six bedroom, self-contained units. This accommodation is suitable for families or share accommodation. Nepean Hall offers 42 single study bedrooms with shared bathrooms, kitchens and recreational rooms. There are lots of resources that the students can use to find off-campus accommodation: the accommodation database, student hostels and residences, homestay agencies, agencies managing furnished properties, share and rental accommodation websites, and real estate agents.
