The art education program incorporates flexibility in structure in order that students may develop their individual potential as future art educators in a variety of roles. The Bachelor of Art Education comprises an art education major, professional experience in art education, courses in fine arts, including art history and theory, electives and General Education courses. Students can choose a fine arts major in: Ceramics, Drawing, Jewellery, Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking, Sculpture, Performance and Installation, Textiles, Time Based Art. Honours is available to eligible students as part of the fourth year.

Students will be considered for admission to this program at UNSW on the basis of their performance in any of the following: Australian and New Zealand final senior secondary studies, post-secondary or tertiary qualifications, overseas qualifications considered equivalent to Australian studies or an alternative entry scheme. They should also have higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in Standard English or higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in English as a Second Language or higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in Advanced English or IELTS score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing.
