The Bachelor of Art Theory offers intensive study of the visual arts and design. The degree program encourages students to take full advantage of its location within one of Australia's largest art and design schools and a leading university. The degree offers students in-depth study of art and/or design history and theory and prepares students for research careers or professional employment in the arts or design industries. Graduates from the Bachelor of Art Theory will have the ability to make informed critical judgements about various forms of visual culture, with a particular emphasis on understanding the visual arts and design and the historical-theoretical interpretation of images and objects. Students major in: Art theory and can take studio electives in: Fine Arts, Design, Media.

Students will be considered for admission to this program at UNSW on the basis of their performance in any of the following: Australian and New Zealand final senior secondary studies, post-secondary or tertiary qualifications, overseas qualifications considered equivalent to Australian studies or an alternative entry scheme. They should also have higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in Standard English or higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in English as a Second Language or higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in Advanced English or IELTS score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing.
