This program integrates Asian studies and language with the theory and practise of communication enables students to develop a broad perspective on the language, culture and communications industry of the Asian region. It also equips them to take advantage of career opportunities being created through Australia's continuing integration with the Asia-Pacific region. Students will gain valuable knowledge and understanding of their Asian neighbours and the chance to learn one of the languages of the region. This will make them well equipped to work in a variety of fields in the region or within Australia as an expert on Asian affairs. Opportunities abound for specialist journalists with knowledge of Asian societies and languages. Students will graduate with skills in Asian language and culture and also in communication, both areas of increasing importance and potential within the media, public sector and private enterprise throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Students should have completed a senior secondary school qualification regarded as comparable to an Australian Year 12 award. International students whose native is not English should have the following requirements: a minimum overall band score of 6.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 5.5; a minimum score of 550 on TOEFL; an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no score less than 19); no score less than three in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by GELI or ISLPR Language Services only); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
