This course will enable students to gain a critical understanding of the complexity of both the traditional and sustainable tourism industries, as well as economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism. A major in tourism will provide them with excellent transferable skills that can be applied within a range of public and private sectors, with outstanding domestic and global employment opportunities. Careers in tourism contribute to the economy, increase understanding of human behaviour, and build international relationships. Graduates specialising in tourism are able to pursue a variety of professional careers in the tourism industry.

Students should have a satisfactory audition/ interview is a requirement of admission together with an acceptable level of attainment in year 12 or equivalent. Students must satisfy any one of the following English proficiency requirements whose first language is not English: IELTS 6.0 no subtest less than 6.0, ELICOS Exam (Entry Level Pass (EP) in EAP exam), TOEFL paper based test result of 525 minimum score of 4 in TWE or internet result of 80 and no subtest less than 20, PTE (Academic) score of 57 with no subtest score less than 50, CULT score of 70.

This campus is located on a 140-hectare site of natural bushland 12 kilometres west of the city of Newcastle, the Callaghan campus has a reputation for being one of the most naturally beautiful campuses in Australia. Callaghan is the original campus and the place where the majority (around 16,000) of the students are based. Callaghan is well serviced by both bus and train (there is a railway station adjacent to the campus) and it has excellent access to the freeway.

This campus has housing over 950 students, this university has four residential Colleges: Barahineban, Edwards Hall, Evatt House and International House. More than half of these rooms are reserved for existing residents. The Colleges can offer students a range of social, cultural and sporting opportunities in an environment conducive to study and academic achievement. Each College is under the care of a Head of Residence and a team of residential staff. Each College has its own ethos and students have a choice of catered or self-catered lifestyles. The Ourimbah Campus has a self-catered residential unit (Blue Gum House). The Off-Campus Accommodation office maintains an interactive database of accommodation options.

This campus offers several programs and courses on one site so that students can take advantage of pathways between levels and sectors of education and training. Its affiliates are the Central Coast Community College and the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music. The University of Newcastle has a major presence on the Central Coast of New South Wales at Ourimbah through a multi-sector co-located partnership of Hunter Institute. Ourimbah is an Indigenous word expressing a place of learning, and the campus is located on traditional lands where this learning took place.

This campus is located in one of the fastest growing areas in NSW and has the amenities of a major city combined with beautiful scenery and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. There are a number of accommodation options available on the Central Coast. Blue Gum House was opened in 1998 and has four separate units in a two storey building. Two of the units have six bedrooms and two have seven bedrooms. It offers single room accommodation on a self catering basis. Students may wish to apply for on-campus accommodation, stay in temporary accommodation, rent private accommodation or stay with a family.

The University started its Singapore operations at PSB Academy's new campus near Tiong Bahru MRT station. The new campus covers an area of 19,000 square metres and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as a library, computer and science laboratories, comfortable lecture rooms and meeting rooms, as well as quiet study areas. New student facilities for recreation and overall development include a fully equipped gym, which is sponsored by The University of Newcastle, multipurpose hall, basketball and badminton court and a cricket ground. Students have access to Wireless Internet Broadband connection. The university has been very successful in strengthening its position in Singapore and also it is continuing to offer a wide range of programs in different fields in Singapore in partnership with PSB Academy.
