This is a highly valued business qualification that opens the door to a wide variety of careers. The Information Systems (IS) major is tailored to students who are interested in business and management aspects of the discipline. Students will learn about business IS in various complex decision making contexts and how these systems, and the information generated by them, support the modern organisation in achieving both day-to-day and long-term objectives. Graduates from this specialisation have a range of broad career paths to choose including: Business Consulting; Forensics and Intelligence; New Product/Service Development; Internet Entrepreneurship; Systems Development; Communications and Networking; Information Systems Security; Project Management; and Information Technology Management. With a BCom (IS) they can combine Information Systems with another Commerce discipline such as Accounting, Marketing, Actuarial Studies, Economics, Business Law and Taxation, Banking and Finance or Organisation and Management.

Applicants will be considered for admission to this program at UNSW on the basis of their performance in any of the following: Australian and New Zealand final secondary studies and/or, University or post-secondary or tertiary qualifications (eg, TER, TAFE Advanced Diploma), overseas qualifications considered equivalent to Australian Year 12 studies; alternative entry programs such as Access and UNSW Foundation Year. They must also satisfy the following English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the sub-tests of speaking, listening, reading and writing; TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT) overall score of 90 with a minimum score of 24 in writing; TOEFL - Paper-based Test (PBT) overall score of 577 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); successful completion of the UNSW Institute of Languages University English Entry Course with a grade of C+ (grade point 7.0) and a minimum score of 20 in the writing component; overall score of 68 in Pearson Test of English academic version and successful completion of the ANU College Access Program with a minimum of 70 per cent overall.
