This course provides students with knowledge of and skills in computer architecture, enabling them to design, install and operate complex computer systems, large software systems, and computer networks. It emphasises practical and transferable skills such as presentation and communication, management techniques, and entrepreneurship. Content also covers C++ and Java programming, technology project team work and a fourth-year thesis, which teaches research skills and provides students with an opportunity to study a current research area in depth. Major areas of study include: computer science, electronics, mathematics, computer systems engineering, engineering management, software engineering, software systems, computer network engineering. On completion, graduates should be competent to work on the design, installation and operation of complex computer systems, with a particular focus on computer networks and software engineering. They are likely to have excellent employment opportunities in diverse areas in industry, accounting, government, and research and development.

Students must have completed Mathematics determined to be equivalent to the Australian VCE Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods (either) or Specialist Mathematics. They must have completed Australian year 12 or equivalent to other countries. They must also satisfy one of the following English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0 or TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English or TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing or TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20 or satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level which have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University or approved equivalent.
