This combined degree is designed to provide opportunities for students interested in medical science, the scientific basis of engineering and technology, and the technology itself. There is a strong interrelation between the progress of engineering and developments in science, and a demonstrated need for professionals with a strong understanding and experience in both areas. A strong professional focus ensures graduates of this course learn the skills employers want with a solid link between theory and practice and the benefits of hands-on experience. This combined degree can be completed in less time than would be required to complete the two degrees separately. It aims to produce graduates with professional qualifications in medical science and engineering who are well prepared to pursue a career in either field, or one that combines the skills of both. Career options include positions in biotechnology, communications, construction, energy and resource exploration and development, environmental protection and management, materials technology, mathematical modelling, medical technology and instrumentation, molecular biology, nanotechnology and transportation. Students can choose their Engineering majors in Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, ICT Engineering.

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level. There is provision for students already enrolled in a Bachelor of Medical Science or a Bachelor of Engineering degree to transfer to this combined degree program. The eligibility criteria used to assess transfer applications are in line with those used by the Universities Admissions Centre to assess non-current school leaver applicants. Students must fulfill the following English language proficiency of academic IELTS score of: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based score of: 575 overall with TWE score of 4.5, internet based score of: 90 overall with a writing score of 21; or DEEP Program (Completion of the Insearch Direct Entry English Program at C level) or PTE score of 64.
