The Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) is a one year course and is available after the completion of the Bachelor of Fine Art or equivalent. This program is designed as an introduction to practice led research and students undertake a major studio project supported by a research paper. The objectives of this course are to provide the opportunity for students of proven ability to undertake advanced work in the visual arts; develop a high level of studio practice and further develop analytical, critical and research skills; produce professional practitioners in the visual arts and crafts; develop the student’s capacities, as a better informed, skilled and more articulate visual artist; promote critical reflection on the work produced and the artist’s role in society; and enable students to prepare themselves for research based postgraduate study. The successful completion of the Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at an appropriate level enables students to be eligible to apply for entry into the Master of Contemporary Art (coursework degree) and Research Higher Degrees.

Applicants must have satisfied the requirements for a pass degree; completed a major study in a particular visual art discipline; attained the appropriate standard in the specialisation. An appropriate standard is deemed to be H2B (70-74 per cent) or above in all subjects undertaken, or equivalent; completed the online application, supplementary form and paid the application fee; and have attended the interview, presenting a folio of current work and having submitted the research project proposal, which will be assessed for selection purposes. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: they need to meet the University's TOEFL (academic test) requirements within the 24 months preceding application. The following scores are required: Paper based test - a score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English; Computer based test - a score of 233 or more including an Essay Rating score of 4.5; Internet based test - a score of 79 and scores of: 21 in writing, 18 in speaking, 13 in reading and listening. They need to meet the University's IELTS (academic test) requirements within the 24 months preceding application. The following scores are required: an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0. Applicants with an IELTS overall score of less than 7 and TOEFL (IBT) score of less than 94 will be required to take a Diagnostic English Language Assessment (DELA) on enrolment at the University and to follow recommendations for language support. They need to meet the University's Pearson Test of English (Academic test) requirement within the 24 months preceding application. The following score is required: an overall score of between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50.
