This program focuses on the political, social, cultural and economic aspects of human service organisations and the provision of human services throughout Australia. In a learning community based on equity, tolerance and shared learning, students training will help them to develop a clear understanding of the principles of social justice and empowerment in the human service areas of welfare and family, rehabilitation counselling, ageing and disability. In year one student’s will develop basic skills and understanding - the foundation for specialised studies in years two and three covering community and family, rehabilitation counselling, disability and ageing. Students will acquire intervention skills and an understanding of ethics and professional practice in working with individuals, groups, communities and social systems. And they will gain hands-on experience through external projects and a professional placement in the second semester of their third year. Satisfying and rewarding careers in human services are many and varied- from working with children to seniors, with people with disabilities and different cultures, and in community and government agencies, as well as rural and urban settings. They could also choose a career in community centers, family support, mental health services, policy development and research, rehabilitation services, welfare and community planning, women's services and youth work.

Students should have completed a senior secondary school qualification regarded as comparable to an Australian Year 12 award. International students whose native is not English should have the following requirements: a minimum overall band score of 6.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 5.5; a minimum score of 550 on TOEFL; an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no score less than 19); no score less than three in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by GELI or ISLPR Language Services only); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
