This course prepares students for a career in the digital media industries. It provides practical skills and relevant theory that can be applied in a variety of fields associated with information and communication technology, visual arts and design and media and cultural studies. On completion of this program, students will be able to develop an original multimedia product from concept to implementation; create digital content (text, images, animation, audio and video) for multimedia applications on the Web, CD, DVD and other delivery platforms; demonstrate proficiency with industry-standard software development tools; understand the social, economic and cultural significance of multimedia; demonstrate a knowledge of the multimedia industry, relevant professional issues, and future directions; apply theories of media and communication to multimedia development; apply traditional design principles in a new media context; work independently or as a member of a team (face-to-face or virtual), employing appropriate interpersonal and group skills; communicate effectively with clients and other professionals; and solve problems and demonstrate critical and creative thinking ability. The program also prepares students for a career in the digital media industries by equipping them with essential technical and creative skills. The program features courses in areas such as graphic design, web design, web application development, video production and post-production, interface design, photography, illustration, 3D modelling and animation, game design, social media, mobile application development, project management and more. Students can pursue a major in digital media production, information technology, or a combination of those two areas. Graduates from this program can create digital content for a variety of applications including communication, business, education and entertainment. They can confidently work individually or in collaborative teams, and they can readily adapt to changes in technology. Career options for graduates with relevant creative and technical expertise can be found in areas such as web design, graphic design, publishing, photography, illustration, animation, game development, software development, audio production, video production, film and television post-production, visual effects, advertising, marketing, corporate communications, education and training.

Students should have sound or satisfactory achievement in three academic subjects in Year 12 or equivalent. They should also have an overall IELTS band score of 6.0 (with no individual band score of less than 5.0), or a TOEFL score of 550 (Internet-based score of 79 or computer-based score of 213), including a TWE of 4.

This campus is the University's main campus and administrative centre is in Rockhampton, a service community for the largely rural Central Queensland region. The city lies on the Tropic of Capricorn, 633km north along National Highway 1 from the Queensland State capital, Brisbane. Principal rail and air routes, developed to support Central Queensland's agricultural and mining exports, make Rockhampton readily accessible from within Australia and from Asia. It is integrating its teaching and research activities with the Rockhampton community by redeveloping historic buildings in the city centre to complement the existing campus. The campus offers a traditional university campus experience with over 30 academic buildings and the following facilities: state of the art lecture theatres featuring the latest presentation and audio-visual equipment; high-tech multimedia labs; wireless networking is installed on the campus to enable students connect their laptops to the Internet; photocopying, bookshop, scanning and printing facilities; library with access to an extensive array of online databases so students are able to source the latest information in their chosen fields; food court on campus provides a variety of food and drinks; drink items can also be obtained from a vending machine art gallery in conjunction with Rockhampton Regional Council; ATM machine, post office, 25-metre, 8-lane swimming pool.

The University's residential facility provides accommodation for up to 350 male and female students in 12 gender-integrated residential houses. It is located in the grounds of CQUniversity's Rockhampton campus. An easy five minute walk along well lit paths will get to the University facilities such as faculty buildings, lecture theatres, library and the Central Queensland Community Sports Centre (incorporating a swimming pool, gym and sports stadium). They provide 21 high quality meals per week. A variety of both hot and cold dishes in an extensive menu are provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Continental breakfasts are served on weekends. The convenient location of the College means that private transport is not absolutely necessary. Regular complimentary College bus services are operated, for all Residents, to major shopping centres and other outings.

This campus contains numerous lecture rooms, computer labs, breakout areas, reading areas, meeting rooms and office space. One of the floors has more of a focus on student relaxation and gathering between classes, with a dedicated student kitchen and lounge area. It includes a 24-seat ISL (Interactive System-wide Learning) Theatrette, the first to be installed in any of CQUniversity's metropolitan campuses, has full video-conferencing facilities, and there are 11 computer laboratories, equipped with the latest audio-visual and computer equipment. It is equipped with the latest high-speed Cisco wireless network, providing comprehensive network coverage throughout the campus for staff and students. The network connection to the campus is of 'dark fibre' standard, enabling high bandwidth now, and allowing considerable capacity for expansion as the need increases. It occupies the first eight floors of the 22-storey building and currently caters for more than 800 students, most of whom are international students from more than 47 different countries, and offers degrees from Accounting, Business and IT, through to Multimedia Studies, Hospitality Management, Education and Creative Enterprise.
