The BPlan provides graduates with a wealth of interdisciplinary knowledge and the necessary vocational skills to practice planning in today's complex world. Students learn to balance the different and sometimes conflicting needs of communities within a context of sustainable environmental practice. They will learn that planning the built environment is a complex, dynamic activity requiring a broad-ranging understanding of political, economic, cultural, design, environmental and legal issues. The BPlan degree is recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) and graduates have the theoretical and practical skills necessary to succeed in mapping out the futures of local neighbourhoods, cities, towns and regions. Graduate planners are employed in government agencies, commercial consultancies and local councils. Positions can take a variety of titles such as Environmental Planner, Land Use Planner, Strategic Planner, Urban Planner, Development Control Officer and Development Assessment Planner. The BE’s Bachelor of Planning degree is accepted by the profession as one of Australia’s best and can lead to an exciting, successful career anywhere in the world.

Applicants will be considered for admission to this program at UNSW on the basis of their performance in any of the following: Australian and New Zealand senior secondary studies; University or other post-secondary qualifications; equivalent overseas qualifications; an alternative entry qualification. They must also satisfy the following English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the sub-tests of speaking, listening, reading and writing; TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT) overall score of 90 with a minimum score of 24 in writing; TOEFL - Paper-based Test (PBT) overall score of 577 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); successful completion of the UNSW Institute of Languages University English Entry Course with a grade of C+ (grade point 7.0) and a minimum score of 20 in the writing component; overall score of 68 in Pearson Test of English academic version and successful completion of the ANU College Access Program with a minimum of 70 per cent overall.
