This combined degree program is over a period of five years full-time. On completion of the first three years students will have completed all the required courses for the Bachelor of Science degree. In the final two years of the combined degree program students complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Laws and may enrol in these two years on a less than full time basis.Students completing this combined degree program meet the academic requirements to practice law in NSW, however, they must also complete postgraduate professional training approved by the Legal Profession Admission Board if they wish to practise as a lawyer. Alternatively students completing this degree may apply for entry to the Bachelor of Laws/Diploma of Legal Practice program - see separate handbook entry - which allows immediate admission to legal practice on graduation. Students also have the skills and knowledge to contribute to scientific development in many areas of technology, industry, agriculture or the information revolution. Career opportunities are greatly enhanced by the completion of a combined degree program. Graduates have career options which are open to law graduates, as well as the vast opportunities for graduates of science. Some graduates may pursue careers in the area of their science major or obtain work in legal branches of large corporations, government departments or research institutes. For those graduates who do not practice law, their qualifications provide an understanding of how our society functions, and foster skills of analytical and logical reasoning and will enhance their employment opportunities in areas of business, government and administration. Graduates may also secure employment in legal branches of large corporate organisations. Applicants must have an Australian Year 12 in Australia or an Australian Year 12 outside Australia or an International Baccalaureate (IB) in Australia. Entry based on UAI or equivalent. Students of China must have Senior Middle School 3 or 2 60% (SMS 3) or 75% (SMS 2), Malaysia students with SPM 30 points over five subjects and UEC 30 points over five subjects, Singapore students must have GCE ‘O’ Level (or forecast results) 30 points over five subjects and Vietnam students must possess Diploma of General Education Average grade 7.0. English language requirements include IELTS Overall Score of 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0), TOEFL – Computer-based Test score of 173 with a TWE minimum score of 4.0, TOEFL – Internet-based Test 71 with a minimum score of 16 in Writing, TOEFL – Paper-based Test 500 with a TWE minimum score of 4.0, GCE ‘O’ Levels C6, SPM English of grade B4, UEC Senior 2 English of grade B3, HKCEE English with grade C (Minimum D in Writing) and HKALE Use of English with grade E.
