This course will build a scientific understanding of the psychological processes of the individual and the relationship of these processes to brain function. By studying this major students will also develop an understanding of how these psychological processes are affected by aging and by brain damage and disease. To complement their lectures from renowned experts in their various fields, they will have the chance to discuss, apply and expand on the theories described in their unit in practical laboratory classes and structured tutorials. The Neuropsychology and Cognitive Science major emphasizes the biological basis of cognitive processes and focuses on integrating contemporary research and theory. It prepares for a career in research as well as a range of careers in which knowledge of human nature is valuable, such as Government agencies, business, teaching, and welfare. The expertise with psychological measurement techniques and experimental design and data analysis mean that market research, advertising and the media are also career options. When combined with a major in Social and Applied Psychology, this major can also lead to further study and professional qualifications in Psychology. A four-year degree is required by the Psychologists Board of Australia for provisional registration as a psychologist. For specialist training a professional postgraduate qualification must be completed. Students with a Neuropsychology and Cognitive Science major can pursue further studies at honors level and, following that, postgraduate qualifications are possible in the following areas: Master of Science (Industrial and Organizational Psychology), Master of Psychology majoring Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Master of Psychology/PhD, Master of Psychology in Clinical, Clinical Neuropsychology and Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology, Graduate Diploma in Education, and the Master of Social Work.

Students must have completed Western Australian Universities Preparatory Program (WAUPP) with a score of 63, International Baccalaureate with a score of 29, French Baccalaureate with a score of 12, UWA Foundation Program (UWAFP) with a score of 66, GCE or Cambridge Advanced-level Examinations with a score of 8. To be eligible for admission to a program at UWA, they must demonstrate satisfactory performance in a UWA-approved test of English. This is the case even if English is their first language. They must also have WA Certificate of Education in English, Literature or English as an additional language/dialect with scaled mark of 50 or above, in stage 2 or stage 3. TEE English/English Literature with scaled mark of 50 or above English as a Second Language with final mark of 66.60 or above (in 2007). There are different English language requirement for various states.
