This double degree is designed for students who wish to combine a love of sport and outdoor recreation with the rewards of a career as an educator. Students study sports and outdoor recreation simultaneously with studies covering the theory and practice of teaching. Students select one of three course pathways, (physical education and outdoor education; or physical education and another discipline; or outdoor education and another discipline), depending on their career aspirations. The Bachelor of Education provides comprehensive knowledge of education theory and practice with extensive practical experience to ensure graduates are confident and competent educators. Students undertaking the sport or outdoor education with another discipline stream qualify to teach sport or outdoor education and one of biology, accounting, chemistry, computing/IT, economics, history, geography, maths, politics, psychology, media studies, science or studies of society and the environment (SOSE). In addition to the sporting and outdoor practical programs, all students complete practical teaching experiences in a range of education settings and may also have the opportunity to gain overseas or remote experiences. The course includes a minimum of 80 days of professional placements and fieldwork with some being undertaken in each year of the course. Following registration with VIT graduates are eligible to teach in Victoria in secondary schools with specialist qualifications in physical education and outdoor education. Graduates can also pursue careers in sports management, outdoor recreation, sports training and development, recreation and leisure, and commercial recreation. Graduates wishing to teach interstate or overseas are advised to check registration requirements with local authorities.

Students must have academic Year 12 or equivalent academic qualification. They must have achieved the following English language proficiency test results: IELTS (minimum test score of 6.5 overall; no individual band less than 6.0); Paper-based TOEFL (minimum test score of 580; a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5); Internet-based TOEFL (a score of at least 90 overall; a Writing score of at least 22; no score lower than 20 on the other sections of the test); Cambridge English CAE (A grade); Cambridge English CEP (C grade).
