This course is intended for students who have an interest in aviation, aeronautics, and flying and wish to have the option of expanding their studies into a pathway towards becoming an accredited professional in an engineering qualification. It deals with the engineering aspects of aviation, including aviation system design, aircraft manufacturing, and aircraft operation. Areas of study within the course include a foundation in physics and mathematics along with engineering mechanics, computer aided design, engineering materials, and thermodynamics and fluids, in addition to specific aeronautical technology subjects, which cover aircraft systems and structures, aircraft propulsion, and aerodynamics. Graduates will also gain an understanding of the operation and performance of aircraft from the point-of-view of the pilot. It focuses on the development of knowledge and skills relevant to the aviation industry and, along with a sound theoretical base, includes strong elements of practical problem solving, team work, and project work. As a result, as well as having multiple technical and transferable skill competencies, graduates will have strong analytical skills and the ability to contribute to complex projects. While studying the BTech(Aeronautical) students have the option to study the Graduate Diploma (Flying) concurrently in order to achieve a Commercial Pilots Licence.

Students with satisfactory performance in WACE Mathematics 3C/3D or Mathematics: specialist 3C/3D, or equivalent, WACE Physics 3A/3B, or equivalent is desirable. Students who have completed a TAFE Diploma or its equivalent in an allied engineering field may be admitted to this course with advanced standing. Students who have not passed WACE Physics 3A/3B or equivalent will be required to complete a bridging unit during the first year of their studies. Students who have not completed WACE Mathematics: Specialist 3C/3D are strongly encouraged to attend the 5-day Mathematics Bridging Program offered in the week before the start of each semester. They must satisfy IELTS overall band score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6), TOEFL minimum score of 550 including TWE score of 5 (or a Computer based TOEFL score of 213 with an essay rating of 5 or better), TOEFL iBT score of 80 with no score below 20, GCE O Levels grade C or better, WAUFP 50 percent plus pass in ELACS, TEE pass in English or English Literature, International Baccalaureate Diploma minimum Grade 3 at higher level for an English subject and other acceptable qualifications can be obtained from ECU International.
