This course is an expansion of the existing theatre facilities to include a scene workshop, costume area, design studio and audio/video production lab has led to the development of a specialisation in technical theatre. Providing an opportunity to those students whose primary interest is in areas of theatre production rather than performance, this specialisation involves an augmented study of stage and production management, lighting, sound, set construction, design and technical direction. Students will play a practical role in supporting a wide variety of theatre productions with a natural progression to positions of increased responsibility and leadership. In addition students will undertake academic studies in the history of western theatre and dramatic literature. Significant performance opportunities exist as part of the program including two fully staged musical theatre productions each year and performances as part of community outreach initiatives within the Central Queensland region. International exchange opportunities are also available in the USA and Europe. The program is designed for students seeking a profession in the entertainment industry as an actor, musical theatre performer or as part of the theatre production team. It includes opportunities to gain the professional skills necessary for a performing arts industry career as a performer, director, designer, theatre technician or theatre manager. The degree also provides excellent pathways for careers in education, creative industries and arts administration.

Students should have sound or satisfactory achievement in three academic subjects in Year 12 or equivalent. They should also have an overall IELTS band score of 6.0 (with no individual band score of less than 5.0), or a TOEFL score of 550 (Internet-based score of 79 or computer-based score of 213), including a TWE of 4.
