This course is designed for students who require advanced training in order to communicate with Deaf people. At this level, the course teaches participants how to interact and give a range of complex information in Auslan in a number of contexts, and identify the significant differences between the structures of Auslan and English. It may lead to employment in a range of deaf-related vocations including, but not limited to; Teacher's Aide, Integration Aide, Employment Consultant, Child or Youth Residential Care Assistant, Youth Worker, Aged Care Worker. Students will gain skills in Auslan and sufficient knowledge about the Deaf community to enable communication with most Deaf people in Australia in social, recreational and semi-professional situations. On successful completion of the course students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Auslan. This course will lead to higher level studies at Diploma level. Credits for all successfully completed Certificate IV modules are awarded toward the Diploma of Auslan. They can also study the course in Notetaking for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People.

Students must have successfully completed the Australian year 12 or equivalent in their country. They must have achieved a minimum of either IELTS score of 5.5 (academic) (no band score less than 5.0) or TOEFL paper based score of 530 (minimum TWE 3.5) or TOEFL computer based score of 197 (minimum TWE 3.5) or TOEFL internet based score of 71 (minimum 17 in all sections).
