This course is for people wanting to become builders and managers of small to medium building businesses. It provides learners with the skills and knowledge to coordinate the overall construction of low rise buildings including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, liaising with the client. This will involve: applying building codes and standards to the construction process; managing OHS in the building and construction workplace; selecting and preparing construction contracts; identifying and producing cost estimations for building and construction projects; producing labour and materials schedules for ordering; selecting, procuring and storing construction materials; planning building and construction work; conducting on-site supervision of the building and construction project; applying legal requirements to building and construction projects; managing finances and applying structural principles to residential and commercial low rise constructions. This course provides education and training for the building industry at technician level to effectively operate at middle management level in the residential building sector.

Students must have completed NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) or graduates of AQF 3 programs or should be mature aged applicants. They must also demonstrate English language ability such as, suitable results of a recent academic IELTS - score 5.5 overall with no individual band lower than 5.0, or TOEFL (iBT) 71, or successful completion of TAFE NSW Certificate III in English for Further Study, or proof that the medium of instruction at school has been in English with satisfactory grades in English in final examinations.
