This qualification is for people who want to work as a racehorse trainer for a thoroughbred racing stable. Students will be independently employed and responsible for organising their own work as well as leading others and planning for and carrying out tasks of complex and non-routine functions. Students will need to be licensed to operate a business that trains horses under racing industry regulated licensing criteria for the purpose of competing in industry-regulated events. They will learn how to be responsible for the care, maintenance and racing performance of the animals. They will also learn the skills required to solve unpredictable problems by the analysis and evaluation of available information, and demonstrate broad knowledge in a variety of contexts including industry rules and legal procedures. Students must have NSW School Certificate Year 10 or equivalent PLUS appropriate skills and knowledge commensurate with RGR30208 TAFE NSW course 18403 Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand) (Thoroughbred). They must also demonstrate English language ability such as, suitable results of a recent academic IELTS - score 5.5 overall with no individual band lower than 5.0, or TOEFL (iBT) 51, or successful completion of TAFE NSW Certificate III in English for Further Study, or proof that the medium of instruction at school has been in English with satisfactory grades in English in final examinations.
