This course offers students the opportunity to complete a Diploma in Language at the same time they are taking pretty well any other degree at Flinders - from Science or Psychology to Law or Business. By adding one extra year to their normal study program for the degree, they will graduate with two qualifications. Students can undertake the Diploma in Language if they have been admitted to any undergraduate degree of the University. The Diploma in Language aims to: foster the development of proficient levels of linguistic, socio-cultural and communicative competencies in French, Indonesian, Italian, Modern Greek or Spanish; expose students to a wide body of specific and cross-disciplinary knowledge relative to linguistic and cultural knowledges and practices (grammar, literature, translation, cinema, etc) relative to the language of study; develop students ability to analyse and respond to written and visual texts of varying difficulty relative to the language of study. Indonesia is a country of more than 220 million people. It is the nearest neighbour and has a rich cultural, geographic and political history. Bahasa Indonesia is closely related to Malay and is a language of communication throughout the region, not only in Indonesia, but also Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Studying Indonesian language is a vital key to understanding the region. A knowledge of the Indonesian language and the country's culture, society, and history is an invaluable asset for graduates contemplating careers in government service, private business or teaching in Australia. Graduates are working in diverse fields including foreign affairs, diplomacy, journalism, healthcare, security, international aid, law, business and education.

Students can undertake the Diploma in Language if they have been admitted to any undergraduate degree of the University. The Diploma of Language is only available in combination with another undergraduate course. They should have IELTS (academic) score of 6.0 (6.0 in speaking and writing); TOEFL (paper) score of 550 (TWE 4.5); TOEFL (internet) score of 80 (20 in writing and speaking); Cambridge (CAE) Grade of B or higher; Cambridge (CPE) Grade of C or higher; Pearson English Test overall score of 59 with no communication score less than 53.
