This program reflects the role of individuals who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialized, technical or managerial competencies to plan, and produce work for film, television and the digital media industries. It aims to train students to demonstrate an understanding of a broad knowledge base incorporating theoretical concepts in relation to film production; apply sound technical skills and knowledge to the production of film; transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical or creative skills to a range of situations; and work successfully in a group to plan and produce film. Employment may be found in the film and television industry or as independent producers, directors, editors and special effects developers.

Students should submit their folio and attend the interview. Folio information: when selecting pieces for their folio, choose a suitable amount for viewing within ten minutes. Folio may contain a show reel (VHS or DVD); and/or a minimum of five recent works in any two (or more) of the following media: painting, drawing, photography, animation, storyboards, sound, visual concepts, 3d, digital media or print; and/or scripts or treatments of recent works (these works may or may not have been produced). They should have any one of the following requirements: Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60 per cent); or, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; or, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); or, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); or, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
