This course is for students who want to work in the creative arts - music, performing and entertainment industries as assistant sound engineers or sound designers. They will develop and apply a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate own work and/or that of a team. Students will develop specialist expertise and learn to exercise music knowledge and artistic judgement. From the specialist elective units they can learn to plan, develop and implement audio/sound design and sound recordings. They can operate and maintain a variety of sound recording, production and playback equipment. From the other elective units students can develop ICT/digital, rigging, post-production, project management and business skill for a career in the music and creative arts industries. Relevant job roles may include working as an assistant sound engineer or sound designer.

Students must have completed Year 10 or equivalent plus completion of 19368 Certificate IV in Sound Production or equivalent. They must also demonstrate English language ability such as, suitable results of a recent academic IELTS - score 5.5 overall with no individual band lower than 5.0, or TOEFL (iBT) 51, or successful completion of TAFE NSW Certificate III in English for Further Study, or proof that the medium of instruction at school has been in English with satisfactory grades in English in final examinations.
