This course is conducted at the UTAS New-ham Campus in Launceston. It is intended for people who would like to extend their awareness of how English operates. It aims to familiarize course participants with some basic grammatical terminology and to develop some basic skills in language analysis for language teaching purposes. The course teacher is an experienced English language teacher/teacher-trainer. The course should be stimulating for those who have a professional interest in TESOL, for those whose work requires confidence with grammar, and/or for those who simply have a personal interest in the rules, conventions and patterns of English grammar. The course would also be a valuable start for anyone thinking of doing a more formal qualification, such as a Graduate Certificate in TESOL or a Cambridge CELTA.

This campus in Launceston is situated on 50 hectares at Newnham on the banks of the Tamar River and is only ten minutes from the CBD. The campus offers a range of state-of-the-art facilities including a nursing simulation centre and a Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HIT Lab AU). The Australian Maritime College, an institute of UTAS, is also located at Newnham and is Australia’s best-equipped maritime education, training and research institute with facilities including training vessels, an integrated marine simulator, towing tank, fire fighting and emergency response centre, a flume tank, a cavitation tunnel, and a model testing basin. Closer to the city centre in Launceston at Inveresk are the School of Visual and Performing Arts, and the School of Architecture and Design, both housed in award-winning refurbished railway workshops. With close proximity to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, the Inveresk site is notable as an inner-city cultural precinct providing a focus for theatre, visual arts and design.
