The Graduate Certificate in Music is designed for university graduates in any field who wish to undertake university-level study in music. The program draws together subjects from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music's existing degree programs, and may be taken part-time or full-time. Subjects completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Music may later be credited towards the Graduate Diploma in Music, which may be used as a prerequisite to master’s level degree programs at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Students will gain a general understanding of the key concepts and issues in a music specialization and develop relevant academic and applied musical skills and knowledge. After their successful completion students can continue their studies by taking Graduate Research programs.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
