This is a professionally oriented program intended for people employed or looking to be employed in the festival and events, and tourism industries, as well as for those with a basic interest in developing their knowledge and skills in festival and event design and management. The Graduate Diploma in Tourism (Festival and Event Design and Management) builds on the basic concepts in festival and event design and management that are introduced in the Graduate Certificate. It aims to increase the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required to develop appropriate depth of understanding of issues in tourism across a number of specialisations. The course draws on both theoretical and practical material and provides the opportunity for students to apply both the principles and the practical aspects of the course. The course aims to: provide students with a broad understanding of the role of festivals and events in tourism, both in Australia and worldwide; introduce the concepts behind festival and event planning to reflect the arts, culture, environment and/or heritage of a place; develop a framework for festival and event development with the opportunity to apply this framework to specific case studies both on and off shore; produce people who will act ethically as professionals within the festival and event industry; instill festival and event design, management and marketing skills necessary for professional endorsement within the industry; develop skills and knowledge which allow students to apply the principles and best practices of festival and event design and management; and provide students with the opportunity for a work integrated learning experience in the festival and event industry.

Students must normally have completed Graduate Certificate in Tourism or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution which includes a major in tourism or a related discipline (eg hospitality, marketing etc). The Faculty Board may, under certain circumstances, and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature. Entry pathways are also offered to graduates of Flinders University's Professional Development workshops such as Introduction to Festival and Event Design and Management and Industry Certificate in Festival and Event Design and Management. They should have IELTS (academic) score of 6.0 (6.0 in speaking and writing); TOEFL (paper) score of 550 (TWE 4.5); TOEFL (internet) score of 80 (20 in writing and speaking); Cambridge (CAE) Grade of B or higher; Cambridge (CPE) Grade of C or higher; Pearson English Test overall score of 59 with no communication score less than 53.
