This course develops skills in translation to and from English and another language and builds students' awareness of practical and theoretical approaches to translation and translation studies. The languages available are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Other languages may be available, depending on student numbers. Students will undertake a translation project and a range of electives, enabling them to work on topics tailored to their interests, whether vocational or theoretical/ literary. Electives include a unit that focuses on the work of the professional translator.

Students must have a bachelors degree with a major in a language (level should be equivalent of three years post- VCE study). They must have achieved the following English language proficiency test results: IELTS (minimum test score of 6.5 overall; no individual band less than 6.0); Paper-based TOEFL (minimum test score of 580; a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5); Internet-based TOEFL (a score of at least 90 overall; a Writing score of at least 22; no score lower than 20 on the other sections of the test); Cambridge English CAE (A grade); Cambridge English CEP (C grade).
