This program combines a wide-ranging knowledge of the visual arts with skills in management, marketing and finance, as well as exhibition and curatorial practices, writing and documentation, and legal and theoretical studies. The program aims to equip graduates for leadership positions within the arts. It provides pathways to employment in the arts industries for both emerging careers and industry leaders. Students may work in fields including arts administration, curatorship, public programs, arts management, museum education, and community and public art projects. Writing careers include journalism, criticism, educational writing, research and policy. The degree recognises the significant changes that are taking place in the cultural sphere and prepares students for future employment in areas both inside and outside the traditional gallery/museum context.

Students should normally have a completed, recognised Bachelor degree with performance at credit average. Students who have a degree in areas other than the visual arts may be considered for admission. They must also satisfy the following English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the sub-tests of speaking, listening, reading and writing; TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT) overall score of 90 with a minimum score of 24 in writing; TOEFL - Paper-based Test (PBT) overall score of 577 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); successful completion of the UNSW Institute of Languages University English Entry Course with a grade of C+ (grade point 7.0) and a minimum score of 20 in the writing component; overall score of 68 in Pearson Test of English academic version and successful completion of the ANU College Access Program with a minimum of 70 per cent overall.
