पाठ्यक्रमबारे सारश
This program allows students to combine coursework with extensive independent research in art history. The thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and make an independent contribution to existing scholarship in the area of research. Candidates may advance to the Doctor of Philosophy degree after successful completion of the masters or may apply to convert to the PhD at an earlier stage. An honours grade of at least H3 (65 per cent) average must be attained in the respective thesis and advanced seminar components of the course to qualify for the award of the masters degree. Students who complete the masters will: understand modern critical frameworks for the study of visual and material cultures; acquire skills in the analysis of objects; develop the ability to analyse primary historical and contemporary source material; gain an understanding of the critical reception of works of art; prepare an original piece of research; develop and sustain an argument based upon that research; and develop a knowledge and understanding of research techniques.

Applicants should have obtained four year BA (Honours) degree with a research component or equivalent in the appropriate area of study or closely related area. The grade for the honours thesis component must be at least equivalent to an H2A (75 per cent) at The University of Melbourne and the overall honours result must be at least equivalent to an H2B (70 per cent). International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
