This program generally has the objective of training students in research methodology and techniques and in their critical evaluation, appropriate to their field of study, and in the application of such methodology by conducting a specified program of research under appropriate supervision. In addition, this degree provides training in analysing the literature and debate in the substantive area of the thesis topic at an advanced level.

Students should have at least a bachelor degree or the equivalent in a discipline appropriate to the proposed area of study. International students should have any one of the following requirements: English for Academic Purposes Advanced level certificate at the undergraduate level (EAP 5: UG-70 per cent ); or, Obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0; or, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 575 (with Test of Written English (TWE) score of 5); or, a TOEFL (Computer-based) minimum score of 232 (with Written Writing score of 5); or, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 80 with no band less than 20.
