The Master of Contemporary Art serves as a bridge between undergraduate study and independent art practice; a ‘refresher’ program for artists who have been away from formal study; an entry point to tertiary education for mature artists who lack formal qualifications but have significant professional experience; an alternative route to study for a research higher degree including for those of recognised ability but who have been unable to complete an Honours year. After successful completion of the degree at an appropriate level, students will be eligible to apply for entry into a research higher degree.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree and/or an Honours degree in a relevant discipline, and/or the Graduate Certificate in Visual Art, with at least H2B (70 per cent) in the major; or must have documented, relevant professional experience. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
