This course offers the students in two pathways, one for practising students with relevant early childhood education experience who wish to gain postgraduate qualifications in early childhood education and to acquire or update their expertise in a dynamic field of study and practice. This pathway does not meet requirements for registration to teach in schools or early childhood services, and does not fulfil the current Australian policy initiative for early childhood students with three year degrees to upgrade to four year degrees. The other pathway is designed for practising teachers with a three year undergraduate early childhood teaching degree (or equivalent). It is a program of advanced study that satisfies a requirement for a fourth year degree level qualification in Australia, making it equivalent to a four year. Students who wish to undertake the pathway to qualify them as 4 year trained should ensure they choose the correct courses. These courses are clearly noted in the program structure. The Master of Early Childhood Education program is suitable for students who wish to extend their leadership, critical analysis, research and/or curriculum and pedagogy capabilities.

Students who have satisfactorily completed a relevant Bachelor degree or Australian equivalent. Approved students may commence study in the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Early Childhood Education) prior to entering the Masters award, and may then seek up to 40 units credit in the Master of Early Childhood Education (for students not undertaking the 4th year level qualification upgrade). Students must satisfy any one of the following English proficiency requirements whose first language is not English: IELTS 6.5 no subtest less than 6.0, ELICOS Exam Higher Level Pass 4 (HP4) in EAP exam, TOEFL paper based test result of 550 minimum score of 4.5 in TWE or internet result of 93 and no subtest less than 21, PTE (Academic) score of 64 with no subtest less than 59, CULT score of 70.
