This pathway is aimed at teachers who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in teaching English as a second language and teaching students from varied language and cultural backgrounds. It is also suitable for language teachers wishing to gain an accredited qualification or for those who wish to pursue research in English language teaching and learning. The program will assist in developing an understanding of the theory and practice of teaching English as a second language in a range of contexts (primary, secondary, tertiary) and the workplace in a country where English is not the official language. Specialist units include theory and practice of TESOL, issues in curriculum design and assessment in second and foreign languages, and advanced practicum in language teaching.

Applicants must hold an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year; or an approved fourth year of study; or an approved four year bachelors degree; or have qualifications or experience that the faculty considers to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for the above. Applicants should also demonstrate their English language proficiency with a minimum overall IELTS test score of at least 7.0 with individual band scores required at 6.5 for Reading, 6.5 for Listening, 7.0 for Writing and 7.0 for Speaking. In the internet-based TOEFL, an overall score of at least 100 with at least 25 in the written and speaking section and at least 22 in the reading and listening section.
