This program combines an understanding of computer science, design, engineering management, mathematics and psychology to manage the development, maintenance and production of large-scale software systems. This program is designed to provide students with a formal qualification in engineering at the master’s level. Software engineers combine an understanding of computer science, design, engineering management, mathematics and psychology to manage the development, production and maintenance of large-scale software systems. This discipline focuses on team-based projects, in which students conceive, design, implement and operate software engineering solutions. Students develop technical skills and the ability to apply engineering principles to solving real world problems. A year-long industry project provides the opportunity to work closely with ICT professionals. The program is accredited by the Australian Computer Society and Engineers Australia.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
