This program gives students the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skill and aptitude necessary for entry to midwifery practice. Clinical experience will be provided in maternity care settings across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie, giving them the opportunity to gain experience in public, private and rural maternity services. Enhance their understanding of the social context within which families develop, and consider the social, political and cultural factors shaping women’s health and maternity care. Explore the concept of risk and risk management strategies, and discuss complex issues in midwifery and maternity care.

Students must be registered with a current license to practice nursing in Australia. To gain entry as a registered midwife, they must have a current license to practice midwifery in Australia. Registered Midwives may be eligible for advanced standing for prior study, but must complete a minimum of four courses (48 units). Students must satisfy any one of the following English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) score of at least 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in all subtests; a TOEFL score (paper-based test) of at least 550, with essay score of 4; TOEFL score (internet-based test) of at least 76, with a minimum writing score 18 or successful completion of Direct Entry English Pathway, with a minimum grade of 65 percent.
