This course is a relatively new pharmacy practice area specializing in the development of pharmacy services and expertise with the aim of enhancing the health and well-being of the whole population. This is slightly different to clinical pharmacy which focuses on services specific to a single patient. Governments and professional bodies in Australia and internationally have identified that pharmacists and pharmacy services are currently underutilized in the area of public health. They are increasingly targeting and funding pharmacy services as a way of helping governments to meet national and international public health goals. It is designed to teach pharmacists the principles of pharmaceutical public health and to develop services in their current field of practice.

Students must have completed a Bachelor’s degree of this University in a relevant discipline as determined by the Head of School of Pharmacy and Molecular Science; or qualifications recognized by the Head of the School of Pharmacy and Molecular Sciences and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences as equivalent to Requirement 1; or must submitted as an exceptional case such evidence of professional or scientific attainments in an appropriate pharmaceutical, health or science area as meets with the approval of the Faculty on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Pharmacy and Molecular Sciences and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences. For applicants whose first language is not English, the following indicators of proficiency are acceptable: IELTS - 7.0 (no component lower than 7.0); TOEFL (paper based) - 557 (plus minimum Test of Written English score of 5.5); TOEFL (internet based) - 100 (minimum writing score of 23) and Pearson (PTE Academic) - 72.
