This program is intended for those who are employed or who seek employment in community-based and non-government service organisations (NGOs), policy agencies in government, local government, trade unions, marketing and social research and private consultancy. It is also suitable for anyone wanting to study social research at an advanced (or postgraduate) level. It builds skills in qualitative and basic quantitative social research, research design, evaluation and reflective as well as critical social analysis of the contemporary policy process. Career opportunities include social research, policy analysis and planning, social and community services, human services, public opinion and market research, teaching in the field of social science, activists and advocates in fields concerned with social justice and social policy and journalism.

Students should have Bachelor degree from a recognised university with a major in social science, humanities or business; other tertiary qualifications combined with relevant work experience; or extensive practical experience in policy analysis or applied social research with few formal qualifications. Applicants with few formal qualifications may be required to complete a qualifying program of relevant undergraduate units prior to entering the Master degree program. They should also have IELTS (Academic English only); Minimum score of 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each section; TOEFL (paper based test); Minimum score of 570 overall, with 53 Listening, 52 Reading, 59 Structure/ Written Expression, 4.5 TWE; TOEFL (internet based test); Minimum score of 90 overall, with 20 Listening, 20 Reading, 22 Writing, 20 Speaking.
