This course is designed for public and community sector leaders and managers, as well as those wishing to pursue a career in this field. Students critically engage with contemporary policy issues, challenge conventional ideas about the process of government and public sector management, and develop a capacity for high quality policy analysis and best practice management. Students gain extensive knowledge of the institutions, processes and problems of modern government and policy making, and are equipped with the skills necessary for advanced public sector and community sector management and policy making, including the skills to critically appreciate a range of key drivers in contemporary public policy; understand governance and public management and its applications; and understand public sector management and its application in selective case studies. Graduates will be equipped with the skills necessary for advanced public sector and community sector management and policy making, including the skills to: understand the institutions, processes and problems of modern government and policy making; critically appreciate a range of key drivers in contemporary public policy; understand governance and public management and its applications; understand public sector management and its application in selective case studies. Graduates enjoy careers in government and non-government organisations (local and international), policy administration, governance and public policy management, community sector management and policy making and corporate institutions.

Students should have an undergraduate degree with a major in public policy with at least H2B (70 per cent) average, or equivalent; or an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline and at least two years of documented, relevant work experience in public or community sectors for 200 point program, an undergraduate degree with a major related to public policy with H2B(70 per cent) average over the major, or equivalent, and at least one year of documented, relevant work experience for 150 point program and an honours degree or a postgraduate diploma, with a major study related to public policy with at least H2B (70 per cent) average over the course for 100 point program. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
