The aim of this course is to help students to understand complex biological data and processes by developing and applying advanced computational techniques such as data mining and machine learning, biostatistics, molecular and systems modelling, and visualisation. This stream will provide students with a broad education in bioinformatics and significant experience in a specific area of bioinformatics. Students will have the ability to undertake independent research in bioinformatics with the potential to progress to a PhD degree.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree with a major in biology, biomedicine, mathematics and statistics, or computer science, with at least an H3 (65 per cent) in the major, or equivalent. Students should also have a background in calculus and computing. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
