This aims of this course are as follows: provide opportunities for registered nurses to extend and develop competence as nurse practitioners who are able to work autonomously and in concert with a health team in a variety of health care settings; assist registered nurses to develop and refine their practice through an examination of current research and a critical analysis of contemporary nursing theories, practice and their philosophical underpinnings; provide registered nurses with opportunities to access, collect, analyse, interpret and reflect on information to foster purposeful self-directed learning; and provide registered nurses with opportunities for self-reflection and growth through lifelong learning.

To qualify for admission to the course, applicants must have successfully completed and hold the following qualifications: a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Nursing from an approved nursing school or tertiary education institutions (e.g. Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic) or a Certificate in Nursing or its equivalent from a recognized School of Nursing in Singapore; registered with the Singapore Nursing Board or with the National Nursing Board from country or origin or practice; current employment as a registered nurse in a healthcare institution in Singapore; and one year work experience as a registered nurse in a recognized health institution; nurses trained and registered outside Singapore will be assessed on a case by case basis. Advanced standing or recognition of prior learning may be considered for an individual who had completed a diploma/advanced diploma in nursing from a tertiary institution or polytechnics in Singapore; or on an individual basis depending on applicant’s prior learning circumstances, award course and evidence provided. Applicants who completed their Diploma of Nursing (pre-registration) in a language other than English must provide evidence of their English Language proficiency such as an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 (overall band score).
