This programme aims to provide students with opportunities to understand and experience key aspects of the creative processes in film such as scripting and directing. It is Offered exclusively to students of Diploma in Media and Communication (DMC) and Diploma in Creative Writing for TV and New Media (DTVM), the Certificate in Digital Film (CDF) Programme consisting of modules on the history of film, the craft and process of scriptwriting and directing for film as well as a project.

Applicants must have passed the first year of their Diploma in Media and Communication or Diploma in Creative Writing for TV and New Media course with satisfactory results. Students from the Diploma in Media and Communication must have passed the Video Production and Digital Post module while students from the Diploma in Creative Writing for TV and New Media must have passed the Video Production Principles and Practices module. They may also be required to attend an interview to assess their suitability for the programme.

The School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences offers an excellent programme that is specially designed to achieve a blend of academic and vocational education to prepare students for further studies and fulfilling careers such as journalism, advertising, public relations, arts education and community service. With creativity and technical expertise, students will be on the forefront of Singapore's rapidly growing media and arts industry. The facilities have been specially designed to support language learning. Comfortable, conducive and well-equipped, they include film-screening, video-recording and audio-recording and playback features that are used to help students hone their skills in oral presentations, drama performances, pronunciation and articulation and film appreciation. The Self-access Centre supports independent learning by students keen to acquire greater proficiency in the English language.

The Singapore Polytechnic Student Service Centre (SSC) provides the following services for students who are looking for accommodation in the polytechnic's vicinity. The three types of accommodation available are shared houses/apartments, room in owner-occupied apartments and private hostels. In shared houses/apartments a group of students can get together to rent a house or a flat, and share amenities such as living room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. Residents do their own cleaning and may have to pay their own utility bills. Room in owner-occupied apartments (mostly in housing and development board apartments) is the most common type of housing for international students. For this type of rental unit, the owner also resides in the flat. Students negotiate with owners on the use of amenities like washing machine, cooking facilities, telephone, TV, etc. Polytechnic students take a few private hostels and each has its own range of charges for room and board, and facilities.
