The Department of Mathematics and Science offers modules in mathematics, computing and sciences for students in engineering, technology and business courses. These modules form an important part of many full-time and part-time courses. A sound foundation in mathematics, science and computing, together with competence in their applications, is indispensable for engineering and business studies. Mathematics, science and computing studies help students develop analytical, logical thinking and problem-solving skills. These subjects provide important foundation for students to achieve life-long learning in the future. Lectures are supported by tutorial, laboratory and problem-based sessions that give students opportunities to discuss problems encountered and to cultivate creative thinking skills. The use of IT makes learning more interesting and intriguing. Students learn through on-line module materials developed on e-Education platform, which is accessible via the Internet. Specially designed media classrooms, laboratories and lecture theatres enable the lecturers to take advantage of the latest multimedia technology in their teaching. The School offers the facilities of computer and science laboratory.

The Singapore Polytechnic Student Service Centre (SSC) provides the following services for students who are looking for accommodation in the polytechnic's vicinity. The three types of accommodation available are shared houses/apartments, room in owner-occupied apartments and private hostels. In shared houses/apartments a group of students can get together to rent a house or a flat, and share amenities such as living room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. Residents do their own cleaning and may have to pay their own utility bills. Room in owner-occupied apartments (mostly in housing and development board apartments) is the most common type of housing for international students. For this type of rental unit, the owner also resides in the flat. Students negotiate with owners on the use of amenities like washing machine, cooking facilities, telephone, TV, etc. Polytechnic students take a few private hostels and each has its own range of charges for room and board, and facilities.
