This course is centred on the principal study instrument for which students will receive weekly lessons. Faculty-based activities include duo, chamber, ensemble and orchestral training, all of which provide performance opportunities for the student. Singers take Italian, German and French language classes, and students focusing on composing will have classes in music technology and improvisation. Core units in historical studies (with specialised pathways for Western or Chinese instruments), practical musicianship/stylistic studies, aural and professional skills such as Instrumental or Vocal Teaching, provide support and depth to the study. These specific studies also help students develop key skills in areas including communication, informational technology, collaborative work, problem solving and study skills, with the aim to enhance employability. Graduates can find job opportunities as administrator for music school, agent for performers, composer, conductor, concert manager, music arranger, music director, performer, project coordinator, producer, reviewer, sound engineer and teacher.

Applicants are required to pass in the admission test/audition. The general requirement is Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level with at least four grade-C6 or better grade subjects, excluding English language, or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or Certificate, or relevant Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Nitec qualifications with GPA 2.5 and above may apply. Apart from the above general requirements International applicants from India should have obtained Secondary School Certificate (Year 10), including a passing grade of 50 and above for English from The Central Board of Secondary Education Examinations (CBSE). Applicants from other countries should have country specific requirements equivalent to Singapore. Also they should demonstrate their English language proficiency with Grade C6 or better in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level English Language, or TOEFL score of 500 or better, or IELTS Band 5 or higher, or a pass in NAFA English Admission Test, or qualifications equivalent to any of the above. In addition to above educational and English proficiency qualifications, applicants are required to have achieved ABRSM Grade V in theory or the equivalent.
