This programme provides students with the skills in database programming and security, preparing them for a career in the database domain, exposing them to the latest applications/ technologies available in the database industry. This programme has been developed to meet the professional and academic needs of graduates of the International Advanced Diploma in Database Engineering in order that they may have a common knowledge of the digital tools that will be used to support their creative works. Students typically progress from Advanced Diploma in Database Engineering to degree programs which reflect the continuing need for academic development in Asia well as world-wide generally. The Advanced Diploma in Database Engineering provides students with strong academic knowledge in the areas of computing with specialization in designing and development of database systems. This programme is designed to provide broad-based learning on computing with additional focus on database engineering essentially in the areas of storing, backing up, and ensuring total data integrity of databases. Essential information technology modules are taught to ensure students have a common knowledge of the database tools that will be used to support their understanding and applications of database systems. The curriculum of the program will provide the avenue for the students to progressively build their project portfolio. In addition, and more generally, the course aims to: provide a challenging, stimulating and self-rewarding study environment; provide opportunity for students to appreciate the social and economic implications of the use of various information and communication technologies; develop a range of keys skill by means of opportunities provided in the study units; accommodate student needs in relation to maximising their career potential by enabling them to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in their chosen subject area. This programme is validated by NCC Education (UK).

The modules include Relational Database Management Systems (IBM), Data Model and Relational Design (IBM), Database Programming and Security (IBM), Software Engineering, Networks and Internet, Discrete Mathematics, Computer Architecture and Data Communication, Information Management, Industrial Attachment (optional).

Students to be considered for Normal entry into the programme: they must have obtained a pass or higher grade in the International Diploma in IT and Communication, awarded by Informatics Academy or equivalent; Diploma in a cognate subject. Other qualifications or experience which demonstrates that a candidate possesses appropriate knowledge and skills at Diploma level may be acceptable (may require taking bridging modules). For Matured Entry: Students must have attained 21 years and above, three years of relevant working experience (documentary proof required), completed Secondary education in English or proof of English Proficiency and may require to take bridging modules. They must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS - minimum score of 6.0 or TOEFL - Paper-based test of a minimum 550 or Informatics Proficiency in English Program.
