This programme provides a pathway to equip students with the knowledge to tame the risk while staying on top of the game. This programme offers students a unique learning journey in the realm of stochastic processes, Ito's calculus, risk analytics, pricing and hedging, and quant trading. Even so, the courses are conducted in SMU's Lee Kong Chian School of Business and the Cass Business School of the City University London. These two Business schools are situated right in the heart of Singapore and London, where the financial districts are buzzing with opportunities and where a new generation of quant professionals is needed to make a difference in the financial industry. At the end of the journey when all the rigorous tests are cleared and when the tale of two cities is storied, a master degree in quantitative finance will be awarded jointly by SMU and the Cass Business School.

The admission criteria are a good bachelor’s degree in a highly quantitative programme such as mathematics, physics, or engineering; with courses such as probability and linear algebra stated on the transcripts of their first degree; a good GMAT or verbal and quantitative test scores. Applicants will need to submit two references, one of whom must be an academic reference. Students who have not previously studied in English will need to sit for an IELTS or TOEFL exam. The required level for IELTS is a well balanced 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in writing. For TOEFL, the requirements are 107 (internet based test), 263 (computer based test) and 627 (paper based test).

The University commenced its curricular instruction in 2000 with a single school - the School of Business. The School opened its doors to its pioneer batch of Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) students in August 2000. A two-storey building was constructed on a piece of land at Evans Road at the fringe of the so-called Bukit Timah Campus, formerly home to tertiary institutions such as the University of Singapore and the National Institute of Education (NIE). The facilities at the premises included five seminar rooms, a media theatre, discussion rooms, a library, a reading room, a conference room, a student' activities room, and faculty and administrative offices. Faculty, staff and students alike maximized the usage of the limited facilities and had a good and enjoyable first year. In its second academic year, the University and the School moved into the extensively renovated Bukit Timah Campus which was equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. The School moved again in 2005 when SMU relocated to the historic Bras Basah district in the heart of the city, a move that brought vitality to an area that once housed several of Singapore's premier schools. The current location at Stamford Road is in close proximity to the business and financial centre of Singapore.

The Singapore Management University has the following hostel facilities: SMU Residences at Prinsep and Accommodation at Havelock. The SMU Residences at Prinsep Street is open to fresh undergraduates uprooted from their home towns, to get used to life in SMU and in Singapore. The residence is in close proximity to Little India, Arab Street, Bugis Junction and the National Library. The hostel is surrounded by museums, theatres, educational institutions, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and a range of retail outlets. The residence consists of three blocks of four-storey apartments in a tropical setting with landscaping and abundant foliage. There are a total of 48 individual apartments. Each has a lounge cum dinning area, equipped with refrigerator and microwave oven, two toilets cum shower and four bedrooms with multi-split air conditioning (two single and two twin sharing bed) which can accommodate up to six residents. Rooms are furnished with a loft bed/study table, wardrobe, towel rail study chairs, waste bins and mattress. Rooms are also equipped with power points, LAN points and circular PL lamps. SMU has recently leased 220 beds of student hostels at Havelock Road from EM Services Pte Ltd (a private hostel operator) and it is open to senior undergraduate students (full-time SMU students second year and above), exchange students and full time post graduate students who plans to study full time at SMU for the forthcoming semester. There are 56 apartments which consist of a common lounge on the 15th floor. Each apartment has a living room (approx.16.68sqm) with a dining table; a kitchen (approx. 3.6sqm) equipped with refrigerator, microwave oven, kettle, electrical hot plate for simple cooking; a toilet cum shower and two bedrooms (approx. 12.95sqm) with air conditioning, two single beds, mattresses, study tables/chairs and wardrobe. The apartment is fully equipped with power points and wireless internet connection.
